things to fill your weekend with

lazy.
eyes closed in the sunshine
lackadaisical mind drifting
laughing so hard that you can't catch your breath
so much fun that that you feel like you're 5 years old again
warmth down to your toes
sunshine that freckles your nose
food so yum that your stomach thanks you
sleep so peaceful that you're sure you've just been to heaven when you wake up
sex that makes you glow
and days that go by s-l-o-w

have a happy weekend!

learn from yesterday
live for today
hope for tomorrow

- albert einstein

my fellow shutter sisters are launching a new project on hope.
please go have a look
spread the word.

pink

yesterday, i went and got a mani and a pedi.
i swear i hadn't had a pedicure in about a year.
poor thing...she broke out in a sweat trying to scrape the funk off my feet.
after i got over the embarrassment, it was sheer heaven.
and now i have pretty pink toes.

don't wait to treat yourself.
do it now.

happy monday!

tracy,

i know you're worried.
you wonder if you're doing the right thing.
and if everything will be okay.
it seems that this period in your life will never end.
that every day is a constant, uphill battle.
but don't forget,
when you look down, worried that you're going to fall,
you'll see me there.
with my hands outstretched
ready to catch you
and hug you so hard and tight

and i promise i will not let go.
ever.

love,
d

thrifty

i am so lucky that i have the opportunity to go thrifting on a regular basis.
and i never even have to leave work to do it.
the non-profit organization that i work for started a thrift shop so that the money could be used to benefit the people that live there and may need it.

pretty smart, huh?
the woman that started this thrift shop has raised more than 100,000 for our organization.
she's pretty amazing.
in her 90's and still going strong.

people do such amazing things.

have an amazing monday!

question: "why is it raining?"
answer: because it's the weekend

question: "why did God invent blueberries?"
answer: to go in fage yogurt with almonds

question: "what will dawn do in the rain this weekend?"
answer: go to ikea and eat lots of blueberries and fage yogurt and wish it wasn't raining

happy weekend to you!

dear spring,

i have something i need to tell you.
i love you.
i love everything about you.
i love how you make the trees and bushes and flowers bloom.
i love how your morning light filters through the trees and they get all glowy.
i love how the grass gets green again and the earth comes to life.
and it's not just me that loves you, because the birds love you too.
they sing your praises every morning.
i love how you greet me in the morning when i wake up and linger into the evening hours so that i can enjoy every last drop of you.
i love you so much.
i don't even mind that your pollen makes me sneeze my stupid head off and my eyes feel like they're exploding in their sockets.
because i love you that much.

love,
d

p.s. don't tell the other seasons, they might get jealous

looking for signs:

it's easy to find signs. they're always telling me what to do and where to go and how fast to do it and the right way to do it and how much i have to pay for it and what i'm going to see and what i'm going to watch and the right way i'm supposed to go and the right house and the right building and the right restaurant.

but when i really need a sign, i can never find it.
like how to parent
and how to maneuver through a sticky situation
and the correct thing to say to someone

where are those signs?
because i'm always looking for them.

forsythia

i am being a very lazy blogger...i can't help it.
i am lucky enough to be enjoying 80 degree, sunny weather for both yesterday and today.
unheard of, even here in the south.

i hope you are having a wonderful weekend.

how about these two goofballs?

what we could learn from dogs

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
When it's in your best interest, practice obedience.
Let others know when they've invaded your territory.
Take naps and stretch before rising.
Run, romp and play daily.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
No matter how often you're scolded, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout....run right back and make friends.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.
Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
And most of all...When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.

i'm not sure who wrote this because
it was passed on to me
but i will strive towards these "dogmas" on a daily basis.

have a very happy friday!

and now for something completely different

wonderful meg and i are starting a new project together.
we met on flickr and are both photographers that like a lot of the same things.
so we decided to start a new blog called "today is the day"
each week, one of us will randomly choose a theme....
"today is the day i walk backwards" or "today is the day i jump for joy" etc....
we have each written down ideas to choose from
which will inspire a photo that we will then post together side by side as a diptych.
today is the day that our first post was published.
the theme was "today is the day i see green"
please go check it out and see what you think.

what a great surprise to discover this photo landed as a daily click on the esteemed and very wonderful shutter sisters website. if you have never been to this website, please go and have a look. they are a daily source of inspiration and i am very honored to have been a small part of it. see it here
