Living in the breath of the moment requires a sense of wonder and the focus to attend to it. Just as in life, my photography is a practice of creating those quiet spaces and finding singular focus through subject, color, light or form. I experiment with imagery to anchor emotions and unlock the memories buried within them …..telling the viewer a story that may resonate with them in personal ways. I work with toy lenses because I have found that they are able to blur the boundaries between what I am shooting and the emotion that I feel in a way that resonates with my aesthetic. The tension between what is in focus and what is not is interesting to me.My ability to control the outcome of the image is not solely based on how I shoot, because there are so many unpredictabilities.I am very influenced by painters and work with my images in much the same way by starting with a foundation of color and texture and working out from there, pushing out the boundary between photography and painting. The painterly and dreamlike images I create speak to the realm of imagination and the internal, emotional dialogue that resides in all of us.Although they are simplistic in nature, their complex nuances of emotion are reminders of the effects of time on us all.
